Colombo (Web Desk): The Super Eight Group 2 match between Pakistan and New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 was called off due to rain, with both teams awarded one point each.
Persistent rain in and around R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo forced the umpires to cancel the game. The match’s final cut-off time was 9:46 AM, and for a minimum 5-over game to start, play needed to begin by then. However, the rain made it impossible to commence the match.
Pakistan had won the toss and opted to bat first, but the heavy rain prevented any play.
Pakistan’s squad included Fakhar Zaman replacing Khawaja Nafees, along with captain Salman Ali Agha, Sahbazada Farhan, Syed Ayyub, Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Usman Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Salman Mirza, and Usman Tariq.
New Zealand’s lineup featured captain Mitchell Santner, Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Matt Henry, Ash Sodhi, and Lockie Ferguson.
