PTI to move SC after President Alvi’s claims

Lahore: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to approach the Supreme Court after President Dr Arif Alvi claimed that he had denied signing bills amending the Official Secrets Act and the Pakistan Army Act.

The PTI spokesperson expressed gratitude to President Alvi for his courageous stance in support of the Constitution, citizens’ rights, and the security of democracy and parliament. He emphasised that the president symbolises the federation, forms part of parliament, and holds supreme command of the armed forces.

“As God is my witness, I did not sign Official Secrets Amendment Bill 2023 & Pakistan Army Amendment Bill 2023 as I disagreed with these laws,” President Alvi said on X, previously known as Twitter.

“I asked my staff to return the bills unsigned within stipulated time to make them ineffective. I confirmed from them many times that whether they have been returned & was assured that they were,” Dr Ali added. “However I have found out today that my staff undermined my will and command. As Allah knows all, He will forgive IA. But I ask forgiveness from those who will be effected,” he maintained.
