Lahore/Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) on Sunday late issued a new alert, forecasting another spell of rain and snowfall at isolated places in northwest Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) region from Monday (today).
The Met Office has predicted mainly cold and dry weather in most parts of the country, while very cold in northern parts and north Balochistan.
Rain and snowfall is expected at scattered places in northeast Balochistan, hilly areas of upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and G-B on Monday, while at isolated places in upper Punjab, plain areas of central and lower K-P and Islamabad.
Last week, at least 69 people lost their lives in snow-related incidents in AJK.
According to Neelum Valley Deputy Commissioner Raja Shahid Mehmood, the deaths were reported from villages in the mountainous areas of Dhakki and Chaknar located along the Line of Control.
Mehmood added that the number of injured persons had also risen to 94.
Relief and rescue efforts are currently underway in Neelum Valley. On the directives of the prime minister, helicopters will distribute rations, blankets, medicines and other supplies to residents of the valley on Wednesday, officials said.
