Lahore (Web Desk): Pakistan’s title defense in the Champions Trophy has taken a serious hit with the unfortunate news that Fakhar Zaman will miss the rest of the tournament due to a muscle injury.

The opening batter’s absence came after he experienced discomfort while fielding in the match against New Zealand.

Despite trying to carry on, Fakhar’s injury worsened as he batted, leading to his eventual dismissal for just 24 runs.

As a result, Imam-ul-Haq has been drafted in as his replacement, with approval from the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) technical committee.

This move comes just days before Pakistan’s high-stakes match against India on February 23, adding pressure to an already tense situation.

Fakhar’s departure is a major setback, as he has been a key figure in the top order for Pakistan.

His fitness concerns, particularly his struggle to run between the wickets, were evident as the game against New Zealand unfolded.

Imam will now need to step into his shoes in a must-win encounter against arch-rivals India.

His experience in ODIs, although not as vast as Fakhar’s, could provide some stability, but the challenge of filling such a prominent role in a tournament as prestigious as the Champions Trophy cannot be underestimated.

With the team now missing Fakhar’s contributions, all eyes will be on Imam to rise to the occasion.
