Monsoon season ends, Punjab rivers' levels return to normal: DG PDMA

Lahore: Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, announced that the 2025 monsoon season has officially ended, and water levels in all rivers have stabilized.

He assured that the authorities will keep the public informed about any developments that occurred during the floods, noting that currently all rivers are flowing within normal limits, except for a slightly higher flow in the Sutlej River.

During a press briefing, Irfan Ali Kathia revealed that the M-5 Motorway has been closed to all traffic due to floodwaters, but the water level has been steadily decreasing over the past 48 hours.

He added that there is no risk of breaches on the motorway at this time. A technical team continues to monitor the situation closely, with full support from the National Highway Authority and Sui Northern Gas.

He further stated that no rainfall is expected in the coming week. The flow in the Chenab River, from Marala to Panjnad, is normal, and all breaches are expected to be sealed within a week. The large breach at the Ravi River near Sidhnai has also been fully repaired.

Irfan Ali Kathia mentioned that the floodwaters caused minimal damage in Sindh province, with the water level in the Indus River at Sukkur continuing to decrease. A reduction of 62,325 cusecs has been recorded at this location.
