Islamabad: An accountability court on Tuesday acquitted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s sons — Hasan and Hussain — acquittal in corruption cases related to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills, Flagship company and Avenfield apartments.
The court presided by Judge Nasir Javed Rana announce the verdict.
At the outset of the case, NAB prosecutor Afzal Qureshi informed the court that no appeal was filed against the acquittal of Nawaz’ sons or incumbent Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. He added that the main accused in the case had been acquitted earlier.
The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Qazi Misbah, stated that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) acquitted Nawaz after relying on the same documents that supported Maryam’s acquittal. He maintained that the NAB did not present any additional evidence on the basis of which the case should be proceeded against Hasan and Hussain.
Prosecuting Hasan and Hussain would be a waste of court’s time, Misbah said, adding that they could not be convicted on the basis of the evidence available with the court.
Earlier the same court granted major relief to Hasan and Hussain by revoking its earlier order declaring them proclaimed offenders and cancelling their permanent arrest warrants.
