Islamabad (Web Desk): The polling on vacant seats of the national and provincial assemblies has ended, while counting of votes is underway.
In Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, polling on four vacant seats of National Assembly and provincial assemblies held Friday.
According to the Election Commission of Pakista (ECP), polling will continue till 5pm without any break.
The polling is underway for NA-75, Sialkot-IV Daska, PP-51 Gujranwala I, NA-45 Kurram I and PK-63 Nowshera III.
The seats fell vacant due to the death of the former lawmakers.
Foolproof security measures have been made to ensure polling in a peaceful and transparent manner.
The seat of NA-75 Tehsil Daska, District Sialkot was vacated after the death of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz's (PML-N) Syed Iftikhar-ud-Din in August 2020. PA seat PP-51 Wazirabad was vacated after the death of PML-N MPA Chaudhry Shaukat Manzoor Cheema in June 2020 due to coronavirus.
A close contest is being expected between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate, Syeda Nosheen and the ruling Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Amjad Malhi. Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) Muhammad Khalil Sindhu and the other seven independent candidates are also running for the National Assembly seat.
On PP-51 Wazirabad seat, the PML-N has awarded ticket to Talat Manzoor Cheema, wife of Chaudhry Shaukat Manzoor Cheema. PTI’s Chaudhry Yousuf Mehr is contesting against her.
On NA-45 Kurram, PTI candidate Fakhr Zaman Khan is contesting against Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F’s (JUI-F) Malik Jamil Khan.
On PK-63 Nowshera, a close fight is expected between PML-N’s Ikhtiar Wali and PTI’s Omar Kakakhel.
On February 16, by-elections were held on vacant Sindh and Balochistan Assembly seats including PS-43 Sanghar III, PS-88 Malir II and PB-20 Pishin III.
PPP candidates won the election in the Karachi and Sanghar, while a JUI-F candidate defeated ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate In PB-20 Pishin-III, Balochistan.
