NDMA issues rain alert for Punjab, KP and Balochistan in next 12–24 hours 

Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a nationwide alert on Tuesday, warning of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides across various parts of the country within the next 12 to 24 hours.

The alert highlights that northern Punjab, including Murree, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Attock, will face intense downpours, urging locals to stay vigilant and limit unnecessary movement.

In addition, areas like Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Chiniot are expected to receive moderate to heavy rain, while cities such as Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, and Sargodha may see intermittent showers. These conditions could lead to water accumulation in lower-lying regions.

Rainfall is also predicted for southern and central Punjab districts including Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan, where there is a heightened risk of flash floods and overflowing streams.

Northern territories such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—particularly areas like Chitral, Dir, Kohistan, Bajaur, and Mohmand—are likely to experience heavy rains which could result in landslides and soil erosion. Local authorities are closely monitoring these vulnerable zones and have advised taking necessary precautions.

In Balochistan, districts including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Mastung, Noshki, and Barkhan are expected to receive significant rainfall. Torrential rains are also anticipated in regions like Sibi, Dera Bugti, Sui, Kharan, Khuzdar, Kalat, Awaran, Turbat, Washuk, Hingol, and Gadani, where flash flooding may impact urban and low-lying areas, and landslides could pose risks in mountainous terrain.

Disruptions in traffic are likely along the Karakoram Highway and adjacent routes such as Tor Ghar, Battagram, Shangla, Lower Kohistan, and Hunza, due to potential landslides and road blockages.

The NDMA has called on provincial and district authorities, provincial disaster management bodies, rescue teams, and law enforcement agencies to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure readiness with personnel and equipment for swift emergency response.
