Jameel Ahmad appointed as Governor SBP

Islamabad (Web Desk): The federal government on Friday appointed Jameel Ahmad as the new governor of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the newly appointed governor will serve for a five-year term.

"In exercise of powers conferred under Section 11A(1) read with Section 14(1) of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Act 1956 (Amended 2022), Jameel Ahmad is appointed as Governor State Bank of Pakistan for a term of five (5) years with the approval of the President of Pakistan, upon the recommendation of Federal Government," the notification said.

The post fell vacant on May 4 after former SBP governor Reza Baqir's term expired and the coalition government decided against extending his tenure further. Dr Murtaza Syed had taken over as acting governor.
