Qatar holds meeting with ICC president to pursue legal action against Israel

Doha (Web Desk): Qatar has engaged in talks with the President of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Judge Tomoko Akane, aiming to explore legal avenues following last week’s attack on its territory by Israel.

The head of Qatar’s negotiation team, Mohammed Al-Khalifi, met with the ICC President in The Hague on Wednesday. This meeting is part of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to hold those responsible for the Israeli assault accountable through all available legal and diplomatic means.

Qatari officials emphasized that these steps are intended to ensure a firm response to what they consider unlawful military actions by Israel, and to bring perpetrators to justice.

The recent Israeli attack has raised concerns among Gulf countries, which have traditionally relied on the United States for their security.

Following the meeting, Al-Khalifi posted on social media that his visit was part of a broader mission by the Qatari team to seek legal remedies in response to Israel’s illegal armed aggression.

Last year, the ICC initiated proceedings against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the conflict in Gaza. The charges include deliberate targeting of civilians and using starvation as a weapon of war.

The ICC also called for the arrest of Israel’s former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Hamas commander Mohammed Deif, both of whom Israel later confirmed had died.

Since October 2023, Israeli military actions have resulted in the deaths of at least 65,141 Palestinians.
