Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan for not appearing in contempt of court case hearing regarding the arrest of former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi despite his release orders from the court.
Lahore High Court (LHC) heard the Contempt of court case against police officers on Parvaiz Elahi's arrest.
LHC Judge Mirza Waqas Rauf heard the case and asked the public prosecutor where the Islamabad IGP was.
The court was outraged that IG Islamabad did not appear despite the bailable arrest warrant.
Following, the court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for IG Islamabad.
Court also issued Show-cause notice to concerned SP Islamabad for not producing IGP in the court. It also issued arrest warrants for the Attock jail superintendent over non-appearance.
LHC also heard contempt of court case against the Lahore police DIG Operations Nasir Rizvi, and DIG Investigation Imran Kishor. The court rejected the written reply of police officers who did not bring Parvez Elahi home safely. Both the officers were summoned to court for indictment.
The court remarked that there were clear instructions Elahi should not be arrested in any case, and asked why the orders were not followed.
The government lawyer said he was arrested under Section 3 of the MPO. The judge remarked that the Punjab police was helpless before the Islamabad police, asking if the capital police force was superior.
The court and adjourned the hearing till October 2.
