Islamabad (Web Desk): The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday granted bail to "Gwadar's Haq do Tehreek" (HDT) chief Maulana Hidayatur Rehman and ordered his release.
SC judge Justice Sardar Tariq Masood heard the case and approved Hidayatur Rehman's bail plea against the surety bonds of Rs0.3 million.
Rehman was arrested by Balochistan police in January this year from outside a court in the port city along with three other men amid riots in the country’s sparsely populated region.
The development comes as Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq penned a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and urged the top judicial members to provide justice to all people including Hidayatur Rehman.
It is pertinent to mention that the "Gwadar Haq do Tehreek" has been protesting against illegal fishing, trawling, and unnecessary check posts.
In 2022, violent clashes had broken out between the members of the movement and the police. Mobile services were also suspended for ten days which paralyzed life in the port city of Gwadar.
