Terrorist attack averted with arrest of 'would-be' female suicide bomber in Khuzdar, says Balochistan CM

Quetta (Web Desk): Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti announced that security agencies had apprehended a female suicide bomber during a successful operation in the province.

Speaking at a press conference, he said the timely action by security forces had averted a major catastrophe and expressed gratitude to the personnel for capturing the suspect alive.

Bugti that militant groups are exploiting Baloch women for their agendas and said the banned Balochistan Liberation Army has eroded the cultural respect traditionally accorded to women.

The Balochistan CM stated that efforts are underway to push young people toward extremism. He said that the people of Balochistan are cooperating with the government by providing sensitive information, which has enabled security forces to improve the law and order situation in the region.

Bugti added that the Baloch nation is dignified but is being driven toward a futile conflict, a matter that requires serious reflection.

He also noted that cases involving women would be handled through female police personnel to ensure appropriate procedures.

The arrested woman, who identified herself as Laiba, told reporters that she hails from Khuzdar and is known as Farzana among her family and villagers.

She said she had been indoctrinated and prepared for a suicide attack by a Taliban commander named Ibrahim.

Laiba said that Commander Ibrahim linked her with an individual named Dil Jan, who was tasked with arranging her meeting with Dr Sabiha, a leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee.

As per her statement, Laiba had been trained for a suicide mission but was arrested before she could execute it.

She was also assigned the role of recruiting and preparing more girls for similar attacks; however, she urged other women to avoid becoming involved in any unlawful or violent activities.
