Uninterrupted power, gas supply to be ensured during Sehr, Iftar: minister

Islamabad (Web Desk): The government has assured citizens that electricity and gas services will remain uninterrupted during Sehr and Iftar throughout the holy month of Ramazan.

The announcement was made in Islamabad today by Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari and Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik at a joint press briefing on Wednesday.

Awais Leghari said the move comes on the direct instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who wants to make life easier for people during fasting hours. He explained that, following a detailed review, both the Power Division and Petroleum Division have put arrangements in place to ensure that no power or gas outage occurs during Sehr and Iftar anywhere in the country.

He highlighted that even in areas prone to high losses or technical difficulties, electricity supply would continue without disruption during these critical hours. In the event of a major technical fault, immediate action would be taken to restore service, minimizing inconvenience for the public.

The minister added that a special control room has been set up to closely monitor electricity feeders nationwide, and consumers can report any issues through the helpline number 118, with complaints addressed promptly.

Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik stated that arrangements have been coordinated with gas pipeline companies to guarantee maximum gas pressure from 3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Additional gas volumes have also been allocated, drawing lessons from the previous winter to improve reliability.

He further explained that monitoring control rooms have been established at the head offices of both gas companies, while regional offices have been instructed to keep a strict watch over the network, especially in tail-end areas, to ensure continuous supply. Consumers encountering any gas-related problems can call the helpline number 1199 for assistance.
