Lahore to host 3-day Basant festival from March 12 to 14, 2027: CM Maryam

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that Lahore will host a three-day Basant festival from March 12 to 14, 2027, following what she described as the successful revival of the traditional celebration last year.

In a post on X, the Punjab CM said that Lahore would once again be transformed into a lively spectacle of colours, culture, music and celebration, accompanied by the city’s trademark warmth and hospitality.

Speaking to young people across Punjab and the country, Maryam said, “This celebration is for you; come together, create memories, and make Lahore shine with your energy and spirit!”

She also invited overseas Pakistanis and international visitors to plan their trip to Lahore and experience the city’s festive atmosphere, colours and cultural traditions.

“Insha’Allah, together we will make Basant 2027 another great success and a celebration to remember!” she said.

CM Maryam also told Pakistanis living abroad that Lahore would be ready to receive them and make the occasion a memorable experience.

The announcement comes after Lahore witnessed its first Basant celebrations in more than 20 years last February, following the Punjab government’s decision to remove the ban on kite-flying.

The three-day event was conducted under stringent safety regulations and brought a festive atmosphere back to the provincial capital. Streets and major roads were illuminated and decorated, while residents gathered on rooftops to celebrate, with festivities continuing well into the night.

To make it easier for people to participate, the Punjab government introduced several arrangements, including a free public transport service during the celebrations.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb had described the successful revival of Basant as a triumph for both Lahore and Pakistan, saying that the following year would see an even bigger and more colourful celebration.

She had also revealed that nearly two million people benefited from the free transport service during the three-day event, while around one million vehicles entered Punjab during the festivities.
