Lahore (Staff Report): The Punjab government has removed Additional Advocate General Khawar Ikram Bhatti, who caught on camera assaulting a police officer outside an accountability court in Islamabad, from his office.
“The competent authority… [has] dispensed with the services of [Bhatti] with immediate effect,” said a notification issued by Punjab Law Secretary Dr Syed Abul Hassan Najmi.
Earlier, Justice Ebadur Rehman Lodhi has barred the accused advocate from appearing before the Lahore High Court. The judge said that a state lawyer should not possess such attitude as he has been appointed to serve the state not a political party.
Meanwhile, Police Inspector Shakeel Ahmed, who was assaulted, registered an FIR against Khawar Ikram Bhatta for slapping and pushing him while he was performing duty.
