Warring parties in Syria agree to end clashes, says Marco Rubio

Damascus: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that opposing factions in Syria have agreed to a ceasefire after extensive negotiations. Rubio stated that direct contact was made with all major stakeholders to form a unified plan, resulting in a mutual agreement on specific steps to reduce hostilities.

He expressed optimism that this development will bring immediate relief to the ongoing humanitarian crisis and reduce tensions across Syria. Rubio emphasized the importance of all parties fulfilling their commitments to maintain peace.

In a related development, the Syrian government has announced that its forces have begun withdrawing from the southern city of Sweida. This move comes amid increasing pressure following recent Israeli airstrikes and calls from the U.S. for military de-escalation.

Just a day earlier, an Israeli air raid reportedly killed three people and injured 34 others. The strike targeted key sites in Damascus, including the presidential palace and the Ministry of Defense, further straining the situation in the region.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump remarked that misunderstandings between Syria and Israel need to be addressed. He stated his intention to initiate dialogue with both nations and also called for a meeting regarding the killing of an American citizen in the West Bank.
