Renowned comedian Albela remembered on 21st death anniversary

Lahore (Web Desk): The 21st death anniversary of legendary comedian, film and stage actor Albela was observed on Thursday.

Albela, whose real name was Akhtar Hussain, was born on September 21, 1940, in Gojra, a town in the Toba Tek Singh district.

He began his artistic journey through stage performances and became widely recognized for his unmatched comedic talent.

His collaboration with fellow theater icon Amanullah turned into one of the most memorable duos in Punjabi stage history. Together, they laid the foundation of modern Punjabi theater, dominating the scene for more than 10 years.

Albela's transition from stage to film came in 1963 with the release of his debut movie Rishtay. Over the years, he appeared in numerous films, including titles such as Wardatia Badnam, Yaar Maar, Ishq Nachawe Gali Gali, Allah Ditta, Siren, Hero, International Luttairey, Majhoo, Abdullah the Great, and Khandan.

His performances consistently brought laughter and joy to audiences, and his flair for comedy made him a standout presence in every medium he worked in.

Albela also made notable appearances on television, contributing to a wide range of productions over a career that extended more than five decades.

In recognition of his impact on the film industry, he was honoured with the Nigar Award in 1990.

Albela passed away on July 17, 2004, in Lahore, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of Pakistan’s most cherished comedians and performers.
