Islamabad (Web Desk): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has said that the provinces and private sector are free to import Covid-19 vaccines with the approval of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).

Talking to a private news channel, Asad Umar who is also head of the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) said the federal government would not hold a monopoly on the import of COVID-19 vaccines. Provinces and private entities including hospitals have been allowed to import the vaccines that are approved by the DRAP, he added.

Earlier, the DRAP approved the Oxford University-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in country.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Healh Dr Faisal Sultan on Saturday confirmed that the DRAP had granted emergency use of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine across the country.
