Muhammad Yunus underscores strong foundations for Pakistan-Bangladesh bilateral cooperation

Dhaka (Web Desk): Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus has underscored that the shared history, cultural linkages and common interests between Pakistan and Bangladesh create a solid platform for expanding constructive and mutually rewarding cooperation.

He expressed these views during a meeting with Pakistan’s Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, who is visiting Dhaka to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister-elect, Tarique Rahman.

During the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to interim leader Muhammad Yunus and the citizens of Bangladesh on the smooth and successful conduct of the recent elections, describing the democratic process as encouraging and significant for the country’s future.

He also thanked the Bangladesh Chief Adviser for his role in promoting closer engagement between Islamabad and Dhaka in multiple areas of cooperation.

The minister pointed to steady progress in bilateral relations, particularly in trade, stronger people-to-people connections, and the resumption of direct flight operations, which he said have helped create fresh momentum in ties between the two nations.

He further briefed Professor Yunus on the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships introduced under the Pakistan-Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor initiative.

Ahsan Iqbal shared that the first group of selected students has already begun their academic journey at various universities in Pakistan, marking an important milestone in educational collaboration.

Muhammad Yunus welcomed the scholarship program and voiced optimism that academic partnerships, cultural exchanges and broader public engagement between the two countries would continue to expand in the near future, strengthening goodwill and understanding on both sides.

He conveyed his gratitude to the visiting minister and fondly recalled his earlier meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Yunus observed that Pakistan and Bangladesh are connected by deep-rooted similarities and shared experiences, which together form a solid base for enhancing collaboration.

Emphasizing the potential ahead, he said these common bonds can be effectively utilized to promote constructive engagement and mutually rewarding partnerships between the two nations.
