Lodhran (Staff Report): Ousted prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that people of Lodhran had restored the sanctity of vote during NA-154 by-elections.
Speaking at the workers’ convention in Lodhran, Nawaz thanked people of Lodhran for electing PML-N candidate in NA-154 by-elections.
The PML-N bagged victory in NA-154 by-elections by defeating PTI’s Ali Tareen, son of Jahangir Tareen who was disqualified by the top court for not disclosing his assets. The constituency is witnessing a by-poll for the second time in the last five years.
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz also attended the convention.
Jahangir Tareen had defeated his opponent convincingly in the 2015 by-election, beating him with a margin of over 40,000 votes. Tareen, who was then PTI’s General Secretary, secured 117,053 votes against 73,247 of PML-N’s Siddique Baloch.
The fact that Ali Tareen has lost the election this time around by more than 25,000 votes is evidence that the difference in votes this time around has been more than 60,000.
