PML-N to form AJK govt as party is set to gain two-thirds majority, claims Rana Sanaullah

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said on Monday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had emerged with enough support to claim a two-thirds majority in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly after three rounds of the general elections.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Rana Sanaullah said that the PML-N had won 25 seats and would be able to form the government in AJK once the reserved seats were allocated.

He noted that the 53-member assembly also includes seats set aside for women and other categories.

The PM’s adviser, the election results represented a clear expression of confidence in the PML-N by voters across the territory.

He said the incoming administration would work to improve governance, resolve public concerns and accelerate development in Azad Kashmir.

“The PML-N has secured a two-thirds majority in the 53-member assembly,” Sanaullah said, adding that addressing the region’s major challenges and strengthening the quality of governance would be among the government’s key priorities.

The PPP, which is allied with the PML-N at the federal level, secured 11 seats, making it the second-largest party in the AJK Assembly.

Sanaullah also welcomed Sajid Iqbal’s decision to join the PML-N team. Iqbal was elected from LA-14 Bagh-I on the Awami Dast-o-Baazo platform.

The adviser thanked him for extending his support and said his association with the PML-N would contribute to efforts aimed at improving conditions and promoting development in Azad Kashmir.

He also acknowledged that voting could not be held in six constituencies because of the prevailing security situation. Despite the difficulties, Sanaullah described the electoral process as successful and assured that the PML-N would respect the verdict delivered by the electorate.

Commenting on the political tensions and ongoing sit-in protests in AJK, he said those participating in the demonstration were “our brothers”, while alleging that a limited number of protesters might have links with elements attempting to disturb the peace.

Sanaullah maintained that peaceful demonstrations were a fundamental right of citizens, but stressed that safeguarding public order would remain the government’s foremost responsibility.

“The people of Kashmir are as much owners of Pakistan as Pakistanis,” he said, reaffirming the government’s resolve to work for the welfare and development of the territory.

The adviser thanked the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir for placing their trust in the PML-N and pledged that the party would work to deliver on its promises and pursue the region’s progress and development.
