President Zardari approves Tamgha-e-Shujaat for PIMS nurse who saved infant during fire incident

Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday gave his approval for the national conferment of the Tamgha-e-Shujaat on Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) staff nurse Razia Noreen, who showed extraordinary bravery by putting her own life at risk to save the only child who survived a devastating fire at the hospital.

The honour comes in recognition of her courageous actions during the tragic incident at the PIMS neonatal nursery on August 26, 2026. The fire erupted in the early hours of the morning and resulted in the deaths of 14 infants.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had met Razia Noreen and handed her a cheque worth Rs10 million.

He had also announced that she would receive a national award, commending her dedication to her responsibilities and the courage she displayed while attempting to save the infant.
Meanwhile, President Zardari approved several other summaries concerning legislative and institutional matters.

These included the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) Amendment Bill, 2026, the Standard Time (Interpretation of References) Amendment Bill, 2026, and a separate bill concerning the environmentally responsible handling of hazardous materials on ships.

The president also approved a revised Table of Organization and Equipment (TOE) for the Armed Forces Institute of Urology (AFIU) in Rawalpindi.
