Pakistan, China agree to enhance cooperation in police training exchange programmes

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan and China have agreed to broaden their cooperation in law enforcement by expanding police training exchanges and increasing collaboration in advanced technology and modern equipment.

The agreement was reached during a meeting in Islamabad between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chinese Vice Minister of Public Security Gao Qi.

The two sides discussed ongoing security cooperation and reviewed possible ways to improve coordination in dealing with common security challenges. Both sides agreed to expand police training exchange programmes and promote greater use of modern technologies and equipment in law enforcement.

The meeting also resulted in an agreement for China to assist Pakistan in setting up a modern law enforcement centre

Speaking at the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the proposed centre would represent another milestone in the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China. He said Pakistan was interested in taking bilateral cooperation on internal security to a broader level.

Naqvi highlighted the potential of Chinese artificial intelligence-based technologies and advanced equipment to help Pakistan respond to evolving security threats.

He said stronger cooperation in technology and professional training would contribute to building institutional capacity and improving coordination among law enforcement agencies.

Chinese Vice Minister Gao Qi praised Pakistan for its sacrifices and continued efforts in combating terrorism. He also recognised the country’s determination to confront security threats and contribute to regional stability.

The meeting concluded with both countries reaffirming their commitment to closer cooperation on issues of shared concern, including counter-terrorism, anti-narcotics operations, police training and the introduction of modern law enforcement methods.
