Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 564,824 on Tuesday after 1,048 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall, 254,016 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 164,696 in Punjab, 69,885 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,946 in Balochistan, 42,808 in Islamabad, 4,941 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 9,532 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 12,380 with 47 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 527,061 after another 1,064 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, at the United Nations (UN), Pakistan has expressed the confidence that the world body will ensure vaccination of all peacekeepers against the novel coronavirus quickly and equitably.
Addressing the plenary meeting of special committee on Peacekeeping operations, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Munir Akram said all our peacekeepers are essential workers.
He commended the UN for maintaining the continuity of peacekeeping and preserving the safety of peacekeepers, during the devastating COVID 19 crisis.
The permanent representative said the UN peacekeeping is a success story and Pakistan takes pride in its contributions of two hundred thousand peacekeepers in 46 UN Missions.
Munir Akram said that the UN peace keepers should be equipped with the best available capabilities including rapid reaction units, aviation, intelligence, hospitals, UAVs and satellite communications to ensure their safety and security.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 108.579,000 million and death toll tops 2.396,000 million.
