Islamabad (Web Desk): Authorities of Custom department on Friday impounded a not-customs paid vehicle in Islamabad, which was allegedly under use of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan.
According to details, Customs officials reportedly stopped a white Toyota Land Cruiser on the motorway and demanded documents from driver on Friday, which were provided.
Upon inspecting the documents, it was revealed that the vehicle was non-customs paid, with its chassis number forged.
When asked, the driver, Imran, told officials that the vehicle is under use of PTI leader Firdous Ashiq Awan.
"I have been driving the vehicle for 3 to 4 months and have travelled to Lahore, Sialkot and Islamabad," the driver said in response to the officials' queries about the vehicle.
Awan, who has also served as federal minister for information and broadcasting between 2011 and 2013, denied ownership of the SUV.
"This is not at all my car," the former minister said, rejecting the claims as "false and baseless."
Customs sources, on the contrary, maintained the impounded vehicle belongs the PTI leader. The driver of the said car was taken into custody.
The SUV has been dispatched to a laboratory for further verification, it has been learnt.
