Local people's cooperation crucial to defeating terrorism in Balochistan, says DG ISPR

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), addressed a group of students from Balochistan, emphasizing that the army’s counter-terrorism efforts are focused solely on eliminating militants, not harming innocent civilians.

He assured that the military operates with utmost care to avoid collateral damage during these operations.

The DG ISPR highlighted the strong sense of patriotism among Balochistan’s youth and praised the local community’s understanding of their province’s integral connection with the nation.

He paid special tribute to Major Muhammad Anwar Kakar, lauding him as an exemplary officer and a distinguished son of the region. Major Kakar has been instrumental in thwarting multiple terrorist attacks, including the one in Gwadar, demonstrating the commitment and sacrifice of the armed forces.

Lt Gen Chaudhry stressed that it is unjust to hold entire communities responsible for the actions of a few individuals.

He pointed out that successful military operations depend heavily on the collaboration of locals in identifying militants rather than indiscriminate clearance by security forces, which can allow threats to re-emerge once troops pull back.

The DG ISPR further explained that all operations are meticulously planned based on credible intelligence to ensure accuracy and safeguard civilians. The army closely coordinates with local authorities and residents to arrest terrorists and those who support them, ensuring that justice is served without causing unnecessary harm to innocent people.

The military’s spokesperson warned that individuals who harbor terrorists or store explosives will face consequences, but stressed that this should not lead to the punishment of the wider community. He praised the people of Balochistan for their active role in opposing terrorism and for their efforts in reporting suspicious activities.

Highlighting the founding principles of Pakistan, Lt Gen Chaudhry reiterated that the country was established on the basis of faith, transcending ethnic or regional divides.

He mentioned notable Baloch figures such as the Cambridge-educated scientist Samad Yar Jang, journalist Shahzaib Rind, and several female deputy commissioners, illustrating the growing influence of educated Baloch individuals in shaping their own futures.

He also pointed out that Balochistan is ethnically diverse, with Pashtuns constituting more than 30% of its population, and noted that many Baloch people live outside their province. 
The DG ISPR concluded by reinforcing that the unifying spirit of Pakistan, expressed through the declaration of faith, remains the cornerstone of the nation’s identity, bringing people together beyond any ethnic or regional distinctions.
