Peshawar (Staff Report): The Afghan authorities on Thursday handed over the body of Superintendent Police (SP) Tahir Dawar to a Pakistani delegation at the Torkham border.
Minister of State for Interior Shahryar Khan Afridi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai, MNA Mohsin Dawar and the tribal leaders received the dead body from the Afghan officials.
The dead body of the martyred SP was brought to Peshawar via a helicopter. His funeral prayer will be held at Civil Lines Peshawar.
SP Dawar had gone missing from Islamabad on October 26 after leaving for a walk in Islamabad’s G-10 area where he lived with his family.
On October 27, his family received a text message sent from his mobile phone claiming that he was well and would be back home soon. The disappearance of Dawar was reported to the K-P police that contacted Islamabad police and an FIR was also lodged.
Pakistan earlier lodged a protest with Afghanistan over the delay in handing over SP Dawar's body.
During the weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said that the government summoned the Afghan diplomat to the Foreign Office twice.
The FO spokesperson added that Pakistan's ambassador to Afghanistan had also lodged a protest over the delay in the handing over of SP Dawar’s body.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Imran Khan also ordered an immediate inquiry into the murder of Tahir Khan Dawar.
In a tweet, the prime minister said that he has followed the shocking tragedy of the murder of SP Tahir Khan Dawar and ordered KP govt to coordinate with Islamabad police in holding an inquiry immediately.
On Wednesday, the Afghan foreign ministry confirmed the recovery of Dawar’s body in a press release issued by the Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson's office.
