Naushahro Feroze (Web Desk): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of Sindh Assembly Shahnaz Ansari was shot dead over a land dispute on Saturday.
According to police, Ansari was gunned down allegedly by the nephew of her deceased brother-in-law Zahid Khokhar.
The PPP leader was attending Khokar's Chehlum when the incident took place.
She was brought to the Peoples Medical University Hospital in Nawabshah but succumbed to her injuries.
Police said that Ansari had decided to attend her brother-in-law's Chehlum despite the tension that existed between her and Khokhar's nephew.
Police further said that an investigation will be conducted to ascertain how many men had opened fire on Ansari.
A per the initial reports, the land dispute was a longstanding one, with Khokhar's nephews claiming the right to the land by stating that there was no rightful heir to it.
Shahnaz Ansari was elected MPA twice on Sindh Assembly’s reserved seats for women from Naushahro Feroze city, her hometown. She was the PPP Women's Wing's district president as well.
Ansari was reportedly very active within the PPP and politics of Sindh.
On receiving the news, PPP’s elected representatives and workers gathered outside the hospital.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed deep grief and condemned the killing of MPA.
In a statement, he directed the authorities concerned to launch inquiry and take the culprits to task at the earliest.
