Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday described the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) decision to lower the policy rate by 50 basis points as a positive and timely development, saying it would help revive economic momentum, ease the financial burden on the public, and strengthen the business environment, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Welcoming the central bank’s move, the prime minister said the cut in interest rates was a clear indication that key economic indicators were improving and that the government’s economic strategy was delivering results, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
He remarked that, by the grace of Allah, the tireless work of the government’s economic team was beginning to bear fruit. He also paid tribute to Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, the finance secretary, and their teams for their coordinated efforts in stabilising the economy and setting it on a path towards growth.
Referring to the broader economic situation, the prime minister noted that the country had emerged with a degree of stability after a difficult period during which both businesses and ordinary citizens had endured considerable hardship.
He stressed that the government remained fully committed to ensuring that improvements in the economy were reflected in real and measurable relief for the people.
PM Shehbaz said the reduction in the policy rate would bring down the cost of borrowing, making loans more affordable and accessible.
He added that this would be particularly beneficial for small and medium-sized businesses, enabling them to expand, create jobs, and contribute more effectively to overall economic growth.
Reaffirming his resolve, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan was moving forward on the road to development and that careful coordination between fiscal and monetary policies would continue to support a sustainable economic recovery.
