Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) observed across Pakistan 

Lahore (Web Desk): The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala is being observed across Pakistan today (Friday) with solemnity and deep religious fervour.

Large numbers of mourners have gathered in cities across the country to participate in processions and rituals that honour the memory of the martyrs of Karbala, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the battle against tyranny and injustice.

The processions, which feature symbolic representations such as Alam and Zuljinah, are accompanied by intense expressions of grief through noha khwani and matam. These traditions, observed annually, serve as a powerful reminder of the values Imam Hussain (RA) stood for—truth, justice, and unwavering faith.

In Karachi, the central Chehlum procession is scheduled to begin at 1 PM from Nishtar Park. Law enforcement and city officials have implemented extensive security protocols to ensure public safety.

Containers have been strategically positioned to restrict access to streets adjoining MA Jinnah Road, where the procession will pass. Bomb disposal squads have completed security sweeps of nearby markets, which have been sealed for the day.

Over 4,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city, while Section 144 has been enforced. Mobile phone services have also been partially suspended in key procession zones to prevent any security risks.

Meanwhile in Lahore, the traditional procession is following its historic route, starting from Haveli Alaf Shah near Delhi Gate and culminating at Karbala Gamay Shah. Security arrangements are equally robust in the provincial capital, with more than 5,000 officers stationed throughout the city.

Punjab province as a whole is seeing a major deployment of law enforcement, with 30,000 police personnel assigned to ensure order at 382 scheduled processions and gatherings. In Lahore, 12 senior police officers (SPs) are overseeing the security operations, and additional attention is being given to 40 majalis and 12 azadari processions.

Peshawar is also witnessing the observance with traditional reverence. Two Zuljinah processions are being held—one from Imambargah Akhundabad and the other from Jamia Masjid Kocha Risaldar. Both will begin at 3 PM and are set to conclude at their respective imambargahs. A majlis is also being held earlier in the day at noon at Imambargah Alamdar Karbala.

Authorities in the city have tightened security in anticipation of the gatherings, deploying personnel and surveillance to maintain peace and ensure the smooth flow of the commemorations.

Throughout the country, the day is being observed with heartfelt devotion as people come together to remember the legacy of Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala, reaffirming the timeless message of sacrifice, resilience, and steadfastness in the face of oppression.
