Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Three retired military personnel were taken into military custody for their alleged connection with court martial proceedings against former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed for his alleged involvement in victimising the owner of a private housing society, the military’s media affairs wing said on Thursday.

“In connection with the FGCM proceedings of Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed, three retired officers are also in military custody for their actions prejudicial to military discipline,” the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The statement added that further investigations of certain retired officers and their accomplices for fomenting instability at the behest of and in collusion with vested political interests are continuing.

Later, the names of three senior retired military officers taken into custody were also disclosed.

According to the sources, two of the officers in the military custody were of brigadier rank and one was of colonel rank.

The two retired brigadiers have been identified as Brigadier (retd) Ghaffar and Brigadier (retd) Naeem while the retired colonel’s name is Asim.

The sources added that they worked as messengers between a political party and the former ISI chief.

The two brigadiers, alleged of facilitation, hailed from Chakwal, the sources further said.

The sources further disclosed that so far eight people have been taken into custody including the retired officers, in connection with the proceedings against the former spy chief.

On August 12, the military’s media wing announced that Lt General (retd) Faiz Hamid had been taken into custody.

“Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd). Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act,” the ISPR had said in a statement.

“In addition, multiple instances of violation of Pakistan Army Act post retirement have also been established. The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody,” the statement added.

Earlier in April this year, Pakistan Army had constituted a high-level inquiry committee headed by a major general to look into the allegations against Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed that he as ISI director general misused his authority.

As per the sources, the inquiry had been ordered in pursuant to the orders of the Supreme Court (SC) and in the light of the directives of the Ministry of Defence, according to the people familiar with the development.

This is the first formal inquiry ordered against Gen Faiz, who resigned in November 2022, four months before his retirement date.
