Washington (Web Desk): The US has made it clear to Pakistan that it does not want Islamabad to recognise the Taliban government until it doesn’t give women their due rights and allows Afghans who want to leave the country, to do so.

US Secretary of State Blinken told the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee that Pakistan has a “multiplicity of interests, some that are in conflict with ours.”

“This is one of the things we're going to be looking at in the days, and weeks ahead - the role that Pakistan has played over the last 20 years but also the role we would want to see it play in the coming years and what it will take for it to do that,” said the top American diplomat.

The Taliban took control of Afghanistan on Aug 15, forcing President Ashraf Ghani and other top officials to flee the country.

Earlier, Taliban claimed to have taken complete control of Panjshir province.

Addressing a news conference in Kabul, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said an effort was made to address the situation in Panjshir through dialogue and Jirga. He said our people do not want war anymore.

The spokesperson announced a general amnesty for the people of Panjshir, assuring that no revenge will be taken from them. He said there will be complete ban on keeping weapons and aerial firing.
