President Zardari approves military & civil awards, 100-day sentence remission for eligible prisoners

Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday approved a number of recommendations forwarded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, covering military and civilian honours as well as a special concession in prison terms for qualifying inmates.

According to the President’s Media Wing, the president approved military awards for 1,172 personnel of the Armed Forces and Civil Armed Forces in recognition of their services.

President Zardari also gave the go-ahead for parliamentary sessions to be convened on August 17.

The National Assembly will assemble at 5pm, while the Senate has been scheduled to meet at 4pm on the same day.

In connection with Independence Day and Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the president further approved a special 100-day reduction in the sentences of prisoners who fulfil the required conditions.

He also endorsed the conferment of national civil awards on individuals associated with different civilian sectors, honouring their notable contributions and services to the country.
