Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan is commemorating its 78th Independence Day today with renewed enthusiasm and a collective vow to uphold the values that led to the country’s creation.
The occasion is being marked with national pride, as citizens express their dedication to transforming Pakistan into a true Islamic welfare state, inspired by the spirit of the Pakistan Movement.
The day dawned with traditional 31-gun salutes rounds fired in the federal capital, while each provincial capital echoed with 21-gun salutes.
Special prayers were offered in mosques across the nation, seeking peace, unity, and prosperity for the country.
A key highlight of the day was the flag hoisting ceremony held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raised the national flag, symbolizing the country’s unity and strength.
Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, cabinet members, parliamentarians and school students were present on the occasion.
On the occasion, special prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of the country.
A flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Islamabad today.
The ceremony served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the founding fathers and countless others who struggled for freedom.
Adding to the significance of this year’s celebrations is the recent national triumph in the Marka-e-Haq, following India’s unprovoked aggression. This victory has further fueled patriotic sentiments, boosting the nation’s morale and sense of unity.
All over the country, buildings are adorned with lights, national flags, and colourful decorations. Citizens have raised the flag atop their homes and vehicles, proudly displaying their love for Pakistan.
To mark the occasion, State and private television and radio channels are airing series of special programmes throughout the day, highlighting the history of independence, the nation’s cultural heritage, and the continued efforts to uphold the vision that led to the country’s formation.
This year’s celebrations were marked with the theme of “Mark-e-Haq” (Victory of Truth), highlighting the nation’s enduring struggle for justice, sovereignty, and resilience.
A grand ceremony was held at the Jinnah Sports Complex in Islamabad on Wednesday night, attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir, along with top military officials, cabinet members, parliamentarians, and foreign diplomats.
The event featured impressive march-pasts by the Pakistan Army, Navy, Air Force, Punjab Rangers, and FC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while military bands performed patriotic tunes. Troops from Türkiye and Azerbaijan also participated, reflecting strong international military ties.
As the national flag was hoisted, the air resounded with slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad,” and attendees stood to salute the flag in a powerful show of patriotism.
Across the country, cities and towns were lit up with lights, flags, and national decorations. People of all ages took part in rallies, parades, and cultural programs. Markets were filled with stalls selling Independence Day merchandise as citizens proudly donned green and white.
Special tributes were also paid to martyrs and veterans under the Mark-e-Haq theme, with the Punjab government organizing events to honor their sacrifices.
