Washington (Web Desk): On the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb held key meetings in Washington, where progress was discussed on development partnerships with Saudi Arabia and financial facilities with international institutions.
The Finance Minister met with the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Murshid.
He stated that Pakistan–Saudi relations are based on mutual trust and expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s continued support.
The meeting also discussed regional tensions in the Middle East and their impact on global energy and the economy. The Finance Minister emphasized the need for regional stability and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
He also held discussions with Tsutomu Yamamoto, Managing Director of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
The Finance Minister welcomed a proposed short-term trade finance facility of USD 500 million from MIGA, calling it essential for the import of food, fertilizers, energy, and essential machinery. The meeting also covered ongoing arbitration cases and their financial implications.
Muhammad Aurangzeb reiterated that the Government of Pakistan is committed to ensuring sustainable investment and a conducive business environment.
He stressed accelerating progress on these financial arrangements to meet external financing needs in a timely manner.
