Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Tuesday rose to 5,812.
At least 2,856 cases were reported in Punjab, 1518 in Sindh, 800 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 231 in Balochistan, 233 in Gilgit Baltistan, 131 in Islamabad and 43 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the National Command and Control Centre, the death toll related to COVID-19 has reached 97, while at least 1381 patients have fully recovered.
Two more doctors and two nurses of Nishtar Hospital have tested positive for new coronavirus. The test results of 150 medical staff at the hospital have increased the number of doctors confirmed as suffering from coronavirus infection to 17.
The number of coronavirus cases have continued to soar despite the country being under a lockdown for the third consecutive week. The nation-wide lockdown has now been extended by two more weeks, till April 14 (today).
The worldwide number of officially confirmed fatalities from the novel coronavirus now stands at above 119,000.
More than 1.9 million declared cases have been registered in 200 countries and territories since the epidemic first emerged in China in December. Of these cases, at least 446,002 are now considered recovered.
