Former chief justice Sushila Karki sworn in as Nepal’s first female PM

Kathmandu (Web Desk): Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has been appointed as Nepal’s first female interim Prime Minister, taking oath at the Presidential Palace and assuming leadership of the caretaker government.

Karki, known for her tough stance against corruption during her judicial tenure, is expected to lead the country through a critical transitional period.

Her appointment follows nationwide protests and unrest that resulted in 51 deaths and hundreds of injuries, ultimately forcing the resignation of the Prime Minister and several cabinet members. The army was deployed to restore order in the capital, and the situation is now gradually stabilizing.

President Ram Chandra Paudel has appealed for calm, while funeral rites for the victims of the violence are still ongoing.
