Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday upheld the death sentence of main accused Zahir Jaffer in the Noor Mukadam murder case.
According to details, a two-member bench comprising IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Aamer Farooq and Justice Ijaz Ishaq Khan announced the verdict which was reserved on December 21, 2022.
The court also sentenced Jaffer to death in the rape case. The 10-year sentences of the other convicts, Iftikhar and Jan Muhammad, were also upheld.
On July 20, 2021, Noor Mukadam was found brutally murdered in Islamabad's upscale F-7/4 sector Following the discovery of her body, Jaffer was arrested as the prime suspect in the case.
On February 24, 2022, a sessions court in the federal capital sentenced Zahir Jaffer to death for the murder of Noor Mukadam while his employees, watchman Muhammad Iftikhar and gardener Muhammad Jan, were awarded 10 years imprisonment for abetting in the act.
Zahir’s parents, father Zakir Jaffer and mother Asmat Adamji, as well as TherapyWorks personnel, had been indicted by an Islamabad district and sessions court in October 2021 but were later acquitted by the sessions court when Jaffer was sentenced.
Following the verdict, Zahir had approached the IHC in March 2022 challenging his death sentence.
