Three-day Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA) begins in Lahore

Lahore (Web Desk): The three-day Urs of the great Sufi saint Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri (RA), also known as Data Sahib, has begun in Lahore.

The spiritual gatherings will continue from August 13(Wednesday) to 15(Friday), attracting devotees from across the country.

Strict security arrangements have been made in Lahore to ensure the safety and convenience of visitors. DIG Operations Faisal Kamran inspected the areas around the shrine and oversaw the closure of all major entry and exit routes with containers.

Roads around Bilal Ganj and Karbala Gamay Shah have also been sealed, though designated pathways remain open for motorcyclists and pedestrians.

Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri (RA) arrived in Lahore nearly a thousand years ago from Afghanistan and settled near Bhatti Gate. His personality and exemplary character attracted even non-Muslims towards Islam. His famous work, “Kashf al-Mahjoob,” is considered one of the most authoritative books on Sufism.

During the Urs, sessions of Quran recitation, naats, and Sama (spiritual music) will be held, providing spiritual solace and knowledge. Additionally, langar (community meals), milk stalls, and sweet shops have been arranged for the visitors.

The Punjab government has declared August 15 a public holiday in Lahore on the occasion of Urs. Various departments including MCL, LDA, TPA, WASA, and PHA will remain closed, while the Civil Secretariat and subordinate offices will continue to operate to avoid disruption in public services.
