Field Marshal Asim Munir honoured with Azerbaijan’s prestigious 'Patriotic War Medal' 

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): In a recent display of strengthening military ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff, presented the esteemed 'Patriotic War Medal' to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.

The medal was awarded on behalf of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev as a gesture of appreciation for Field Marshal Munir’s role in fostering bilateral military cooperation.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Azerbaijan’s top commander called on Coas Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

The two leaders held discussions focused on mutual strategic interests, particularly in the context of the current global and regional security landscape.

Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding brotherly relationship with Azerbaijan and expressed the country's determination to further enhance defence collaboration.

During the meeting, General Valiyev also lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces for their professionalism and effectiveness during the period of conflict with India, referred to as Marka-e-Haq — spanning from the April 22 Pahalgam attack to the successful conclusion of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos on May 10.

He extended his nation’s appreciation for Pakistan’s military achievements during that time.
The Azerbaijani delegation also conveyed their best wishes ahead of Pakistan’s Independence Day and congratulated the country on its victory celebrations.

COAS Asim Munir also thanked Azerbaijan's leadership and people for standing together with the people of Pakistan during Marka-e-Haq and also for sending the Azeri Contingent for participating in the Independence Day ceremony.

Both the military leaders expressed a shared commitment to advancing defence cooperation and promoting joint efforts for regional peace and stability.

Earlier, upon arrival at GHQ, Colonel General Karim Valiyev was presented with the guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army. He also laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
