UNSC condemns Israeli attack on Qatar's Doha

New York (Web Desk): The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned the Israeli air strike on Doha, the capital of Qatar, during an urgent session held in New York at the request of Pakistan, Algeria, and Somalia.

In a statement released by Council President Sangjin Kim, members emphasized the urgent need for restraint, voicing solidarity with Qatar and stressing their commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

They recalled Qatar’s crucial contributions to regional mediation efforts, particularly in light of the ongoing Gaza conflict, and underscored the importance of the country’s diplomatic engagement alongside Egypt and the United States, urging all parties to take the opportunity for peace.

Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in his address to the Council, affirmed that Doha would continue its humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives but cautioned that further violations of its security would not be tolerated.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, described Qatar as an indispensable partner in the pursuit of peace while expressing deep concern over what she called Israel’s reckless behavior.

In a rare shift, the United States, which usually extends protection to Israel within the United Nations, openly criticized the strike.

Acting US Ambassador Dorothy Shea said that unilateral bombing inside a sovereign state actively working alongside Washington for peace does not serve the interests of either Israel or America, reflecting President Donald Trump’s apparent displeasure with the incident.

The Israeli strike killed five Hamas members in Doha, though the group’s leadership survived the attempt.

A Qatari security personnel was also killed in the unprecedented attack, which has intensified tensions across the region.

At the time of the strike, Hamas leaders had been gathered to deliberate on a new proposal put forward by President Trump.
