Meta introduces new feature for translating, dubbing, and lip-syncing reels

California (Web Desk): Meta has rolled out a new feature for Facebook and Instagram Reels, allowing users to translate, dub, and lip-sync videos into their preferred language, even if the video was originally created in another language.

Using AI, Meta now enables users to translate and dub Reels videos into languages such as English, Hindi, Portuguese, and Spanish. For instance, if you're watching a cooking video from Brazil, you can listen to it in your language, or you can translate a song in any language into your favorite language. Meta’s AI technology will also mimic the video's creator’s lip movements and voice tone.

Currently, the feature is available on both Facebook and Instagram, but on Instagram, it is restricted to public accounts, while on Facebook, users must have at least 1,000 followers to use the feature.

Meta stated that the aim of this feature is to make short videos more accessible and entertaining, allowing users from different linguistic backgrounds to enjoy content in their native languages. Though the AI-powered translation label will be visible on Reels, users can turn it off or select the original language of the video if they prefer.

This isn’t the first time Meta has introduced tools to break down language barriers. Previously, features like auto-captions, subtitle stories, and global hashtags were made available to users. However, this is the first time Meta's AI technology is being used for voice cloning and lip-syncing with video content.
