Renowned poet Ahmed Faraz remembered on 95th birth anniversary

Islamabad (Web Desk): The 95th birth anniversary of renowned Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz is being observed today (Monday).

Born on January 12, 1931, as Syed Ahmad Shah, he first wrote under the name Ahmad Shah Kohati. It was the guidance of the great poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz that led him to adopt the pen name Ahmed Faraz, a name that would soon become inseparable from modern Urdu verse.

Faraz’s love for poetry blossomed during his student days, and while still completing his graduation, he published his first collection, Tanha Tanha.

Over the years, he breathed new life into Urdu poetry, crafting verses that spoke simply yet profoundly, touching hearts with their clarity and emotion.

His body of work includes several celebrated collections such as Jana Jana, Pas-e-Andaz-e-Mausam, Nayaft, Be Awaaz Gali Kuchon Mein, Sab Awazain Meri Hain, and Ghazal Bahana Karun. 
Readers have long admired Faraz for the graceful simplicity of his words and the depth of feeling they carry.

In recognition of his contribution to literature, the Government of Pakistan bestowed upon him many prestigious honors, including the Adamjee Literary Award, the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and the Hilal-e-Imtiaz.

Ahmed Faraz passed away on August 25, 2008, and was laid to rest in Islamabad. His poetry continues to inspire readers and admirers across generations.
