Bangladesh to hold general elections on February 12, 2026

Dhaka (Web Desk): Bangladesh is set to hold general elections on February 12, 2026, the country’s Election Commission has officially announced.

The announcement comes nearly a year after widespread student protests on August 5 forced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed to step down, ending her 15-year tenure in office and fleeing to India.

In the wake of her departure, Nobel laureate economist Muhammad Yunus assumed leadership of the interim government.

Speaking on the election schedule, Muhammad Yunus confirmed that the Election Commission had been asked to organize the polls in February next year.

Following the official announcement, political parties and candidates across the country have already begun ramping up their activities and preparing for the upcoming elections, signaling the start of a critical and closely watched political season in Bangladesh.
