Multan (Web Desk): England defeated Pakistan by an inning and 47 runs on the fifth day of the first Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Pakistan resumed their second innings at 152 for 6 on day five of the first Test trailing by 115 runs and they were dismissed for 220 in 54.5 overs as Abrar Ahmed could not came to bat due to illness.
Salman Ali Agha – the top scorer for Pakistan in the second innings was the first batter to return back to pavilion after scoring 63 off 84, which included 7 fours. He knitted a 109-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Aamir Jamal who returned undefeated.
Shaheen Shah Afridi was dismissed for 8 runs, Naseem Shah for 6 runs, Aamir Jamal was not out for 55 runs.
For England, left-arm spinner Jack Leach was the most successful bowler as he bagged four wickets which included all three wickets Salman, Shaheen Shah Afridi who scored 8 runs and Naseem Shah 6 runs. Brydon Carse and Gus Atkinson grabbed two wickets each.
On Thursday, England made history by becoming the first team to score over 800 runs in an innings against Pakistan.
The hosts declared their first innings at 823-7 with a lead of 267 runs against Pakistan on the fourth day of the first Test in Multan.
England batters dominated Pakistani bowlers as Harry Brook notched up a superb 317 and Joe Root hit 262 runs.
Following the first victory, England lead 1-0 in the three-match Test series.
The second Test match will be played at the same venue from October 15.
