Islamabad (Staff Report): An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday handed former senator Faisal Raza Abidi over to police on two-day physical remand.
ATC Judge Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi, who was hearing a case filed a day earlier by the secretariat police, granted Abidi's physical remand in a case that includes terror charges.
The FIR of the case includes Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
Earlier on Thursday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected Abidi's petition to dismiss terror charges against him.
During the hearing, Justice Moshin Akhtar Kayani that the judiciary and chief justice were being openly threatened. "The attitude of threatening the judiciary is wrong," he remarked.
Abidi's lawyer denied the charge when asked whether his client was guilty of contempt,
The lawyer said that that his client only used harsh words and did not commit contempt of court.
On Wednesday, Faisal Raza Abidi, the former Senator of Pakistan People's Party (PPP), was arrested by the Secretariat police after he appeared before the Supreme Court in 'derogatory' remarks case.
On Sept 21, a case was registered in the Secretariat Police Station under Pakistan Penal Code's sections 228, 500, 505(ii) and 34 along with Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
The Sindh government on September 28 gave permission to Islamabad police for arresting Abdi.
