WhatsApp introduces usernames feature

California (Web Desk): WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature allowing users to choose their own usernames. This feature is currently available in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android devices.

A new system is being tested within WhatsApp, enabling users to reserve usernames. Through this feature, WhatsApp is integrating its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, allowing users to select the same username they are using on those platforms.

According to a report from Wabetainfo, this development indicates that Meta is working on unifying its various platforms, so users can have a consistent identity across them.

The feature is currently being tested in the Android beta version. Users will find the option to set a username in the Profile tab under Settings, where they can either reserve a new username or select one linked to their Meta accounts.

It is important to note that WhatsApp has previously announced that this username feature will be officially launched in 2026.
