COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,303 new cases, 47 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 938,737 on Friday after 1,303 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 326,413 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 343,499 in Punjab, 135,383 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 26,084 in Balochistan, 82,001 in Islamabad, 5,682 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 19,675 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per National Command and Operation (NCOC) data, 40,483 tests were conducted while positivity ratio remained 3.21%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 21,576 with 47 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 873,543 after another 1,874 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Friday said that the federal government will set up large vaccination centres and constitute mobile teams in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to speed up the COVID-19 immunisation campaign.

In a tweet, the minister said the decision was taken in today's NCOC meeting. "It is necessary to speed up vaccinations in AJK due to the upcoming general elections and the arrival of tourist season in GB," he added.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 174.061 million and death toll tops 3.758 million.
