Tehran (Web Desk): Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has said that avenging the killing of his predecessor and father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is a demand of the Iranian nation and must be carried out.
According to a written message shared on his official Telegram account, Mojtaba Khamenei made the remarks during funeral ceremonies held for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed months earlier in US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28.
In his message, the Iranian leader pledged that those responsible for the deaths of the former supreme leader and other victims of the conflicts would face consequences.
“We pledge to avenge the blood of the martyred leader and all the martyrs of these two wars from the criminal and disgraced killers,” Khamenei said in the statement.
The funeral ceremonies were held to honour Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with the event taking place amid heightened tensions in the region.
Mojtaba Khamenei’s remarks reflected Iran’s continued focus on seeking accountability over the attacks and responding to what Tehran describes as acts of aggression.
The statement comes at a time of ongoing regional instability, with Iranian officials repeatedly calling for justice for those killed in recent conflicts while emphasising the country’s position on national security and sovereignty.
